One trip to Windsor Castle Trail Park and you'll want to drop anchor here in Smithfield for good!

If you enjoy walking, jogging, or just taking a stroll around town, then you'll love the new Windsor Castle Trail park located in historic Smithfield, Virginia.

Located right in the heart of downtown Smithfield, this riverside park features a dog park, bike and walking paths, a woodland trail system, picnic and play areas, kayak and canoe launch, fishing pier, scenic overlook and the Windsor Castle Historic Site. Scenic views of the river, creek, and marsh help make the approximate three mile run/jog a memorable experience.

You can start your trail at three different locations, my favorite is the Smithfield Station entrance, which is a restaurant/marina/hotel with shops and a boardwalk at the entrance of the downtown historic district.

Smithfield Station is a popular tourist spot and one we usually visit by boat.

Breathtaking views of the Pagan River and scenic pathways through the forest help make this 3.8 mile trail one of the most enjoyable in Virginia.

Located at 301 Jericho Road, these 209.8 acres are owned by the Town of Smithfield. Windsor Castle Farm was originally part of a 1450 acre parcel patented in 1637 by Arthur Smith and is situated on a knoll overlooking the Pagan River. Smithfield is a former Colonial seaport town established in 1750, and offers high quality of life today.

Windsor Castle Trails

There are a total of 3.8 miles of walking/hiking trails and bridges throughout the park. The trail surface is consists of a fine gray gavel stone called "moon dust". It is fine ground rock that compacts and produces a firm and stable surface that is forgiving to feet, ankles and knees, thus making it ideal for walking and hiking trails. The trails wind through pristine wooded areas, along beautifully landscaped open areas and adjacent to picturesque creeks and marshes. Five pedestrian bridges cross the creeks and marshes and numerous overlooks are strategically located for resting and sightseeing. To find out more about Windsor Castle Trail Park CLICK HERE.

Gatling Pointe, Founders Pointe, and Graystone at Eagle Harbor are three communities developed by East West Communities located nearby. Quality custom homes range from the $300's to over $800,000. Visit www.eastwestcommunities.com for more information.

Isle of Wight County is located just minutes from Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk and Chesapeake. Nestled along the shores of the James and Pagan Rivers, Isle of Wight County residents enjoy the rural nature of the county coupled with the quaint atmosphere of the incorporated town of Smithfield. Historic Smithfield has been honored as one of the "Best Small Towns In America."
